Manny Ramirez and Marketing 101 Redux
For all of those baseball fans out there, the buzz concerns Manny Ramirez once again. As on other occasions, the buzz is about his off the field antics. This time, he offered up to the press that he was in the shower during 9th inning of a division championship game his team desperately needed to win. As we all know, the Dodgers lost. What does this say about Manny? I believe it's a testament to his miserable, me-first attitude that hurts baseball in general and him in particular. Of course, it really doesn't hurt him, since he's Manny, and he's "Manny being Manny". Yet, his "devil may care" attitude actually hurts the game. Customers pay for exorbitant ticket prices among other extras to attend these games. His attitude is deplorable and he should be held accountable by the shareholders ie. ticket holders who should expect from him.
How can we expect more from our employees when we allow such unacceptable behavior from a star athlete who is after all, an employee? He's a disgrace to the uniform and any other self respecting employee who has to justify his paycheck by his contributions to the company.
